Are debt collectors:

  • Calling you or others continually?

  • Being otherwise unfair or abusive?

Do you think your fair debt rights are being violated by an abusive debt collector?

State and federal fair debt laws prevent debt collectors from using harassing, misleading, dishonest or unfair debt collection practices. Alliance One is calling my phone several times a day, many of which I'm unavailable, or offpeak hours (2000-0800). The debt was with Citibank, and it was incurred while I was in the military, United States Marine Corps, and then I was deployed, and the SCRA benefits were denied, and now I'm on medical leave and am not being paid and can not currently pay the debt. The reason I want the calls to stop is because the agents are rude. One of them told me I have an attitude problem, another told me to "f*** off" when I told them that I was using my SCRA benefits. I do plan to make the payments, but at this time, with no income and an injury, it's virtually impossible. If there is anything you can do to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My husband And I owe money to a credit card company. Allianceone calls all the time, and to make matters worse, they put people, on the phone who don't speak English well enough for us to understand. We are trying to pay our Bills, I recently lost my job, and times are hard, which we tryed to explain. But They call at least three times a day & into the evening. I was just informed that the company must send some kind of Information, thur the mail to us, which they haven't Done.

They never sent me statements!!!
By: Michael F.
I received a traffic ticket in Washington State and moved to California the next year. Knowing I had to pay my ticket, I waited for a notice from the county, but instead received a bill from Alliance One. The bill said nothing about what the nearly $600 was for, and when I tried to call for information, couldn't reach an operator. I didn't pay it. Fast forward nearly 15 months later. I receive another bill from Alliance One, this time for nearly $800, saying I had accrued late penalties! What? They never sent any statements, nothing about what this mysterious debt was for. This time I was able to reach an operator, who told me that this debt was for the traffic ticket, now over two years ago. I tried reasoning with the person, saying that I had moved since the traffic violation, had never been contacted by the county court about anything, and then a mysterious bill from a company I had never been associated with arrives. They didn't care (big surprise) and insisted they had been sending bills out for the past year and a half. Oh, so I didn't get any bills, but when they add late penalties and the tally increases, I get that statement? I managed to reach a supervisor who reduced my total to the original amount, and told them my new address, and to send me regular monthly statements because I can't pay out $600 at one time. Guess what? No statements again for nearly another year. With no statements, which means no account number, I still hadn't paid anything. By the end of 2006, I received my third bill, this time with an account number. I was making enough money to start ending this horrible chapter of my life, and paid it off in July 2007. Now fast forward to now (Aug 2009). I checked my free annual credit report, and Alliance One is still reporting my account as delinquent! INSANITY!

Old Fines, new lien??
By: Billy Hayes
Recently my wife and I decided to sell one of our vehicles. The new buyer contacted us saying he couldn't title the car because it had a lien against it. I got a phone number from the title place and started making phone calls. Turns out the lien was submitted by Alliance One, who received it from Maricopa County Adult Probation Dept. back in 2002. In 2002 I was convicted of a class 6 felony and was on probation for it. I revoked my own probation in court and asked to be sent to prison. The judge asked the state if I was current on all my payments to which they replied "yes" ( i have my transcripts). I did 8 months in AZDC and two months on parole after being released. I have had no issues with the courts since, no letters, no contact at all. Until this Alliance One pops up when I try to sell my car. When I contacted them, the woman was instantly getting loud and rude with me. I asked why I had not been contacted by their office, EVER, and what the lien was for. My reply was "We sent numerous letters (turns out to an address I've never lived at) and we cannot give you an itemized list or an audit report of your account, you have to get that from Maricopa County Clerk of the Court" Amazingly enough, the clerk of the court said the Alliance One would give me that information. This lien is complete false and I can't wait to take legal action against Alliance One

Grandfather has cancer, they won't stop calling
By: Jennifer
AllianceOne has called my Grandfather's home multiple times over the past 4 weeks. Recently, my 70 year old Grandfather was diagnoised with terminal brian cancer, he is in the final stages and is slowly dying. Alliance One calls his home daily asking for an individual with my father's name. When we have tried to find out more information about the debt they are attempting to collect, it was discovered that they are looking for someone else, who has the same name as my father. The address, phone numbers, social security number, employer information, etc. is not the same. We have explained to AllianceOne that we do not know this individual and that we want them to stop calling. It doesn't matter they continue to call. I have called their offices asking for Management. I have been transfered to voicemail, my call was not returned. I have been hung up on. I have been successful in talking with one individual who claimed to be a supervisor, I explained the situation, he told me he did not care what the situtation was and that I was not helping myself by being upset. He told me to get over it. I have filed a report with the Better Business Bureau as well as the State of Ohio Attorney General's Office. The business practices of this group are terrible. Employees are rude, heartless and ignorant.

They will not give me a breakdown
By: Bruce
I have written the state of Nevada DMV and Alliance One for a breakdown of the alleged "debt" of $242.25. No one will give me an answer. Nevada agreed with my credit card company Visa that they did not provide me my title to my truck which they charged me $28.25. They agreed to credit me back that $28.25. Now they want me to pay $242.25 (higher figure were give n to me before) and if I do not they will not furnish me my title. I have written evidence of their refusal to send me a breakdown of the "debt". Isn't this against the law?????

The sad thing is both my husband and I have no debt and no late paymnets in the past 2 years I have been debt free and they are trying to reach a distanct relative that lived at this number 2 years ago I have tried telling them this but the in=gnorant people they hire are so shallow they just hand up. Definatley a very low level company. They certainly don't get the job done otherwise they would have collected the debt from the correct party. seeing I have no debt unbelieveable. They call before 7ooam in the morning and after 9pm at night. TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE!

Bad searching
By: Adam V.W.
I recieved a court ordered debt collection letter through my employer. The referring office was Alliance One. They took my SSN and attached it to someone elses info with a similar name to mine, but who lived half a state away on a naval base. They need to learn how to search for debtors info more carefully.

Ruthless
By: Jenny
Mr. Jay Wolcobrand keeps calling me multiple times a day now calling me at work, i am a healthcare professional and need to be sharp and not feel worried about being harassed at work by this BULLY. I got on the Capital One website to make a payment and it said I owed around $450 and two days after the payment I got back on and it says I owe over $1000 . I think this is a MAJOR scam and am turning it over to the FTC for complaint.

I understand that I owe a debt and working as hard as possible to clear this up. I have requested them not to call my job and they are still doing so. They are now calling my ex husband and son and harassing them to reach me. They have nothing to do with my debt. I feel this company way oversteps the boundries of collection procdures and have no right to humiliate me with my family.
